First of all, thanks to each of you who raided your sewing rooms and came up with fabrics and elastics. One of our out of town members even mailed elastic! Your contributions got us through the weekend and allowed us to make many masks. Eileen O’Rourke was able to locate bulk elastic, which arrived yesterday, so we are well equipped for now. The latest material we are sourcing is fusible interfacing. This extra layer gives added protection to our medical responders. In addition to your material contributions, I know there are many of you actually sewing the masks. I hesitate to give your names as I know I will miss someone that I am not aware of.
And where are our masks going? So many places. Some will go to Pati Robben’s brother who is in desperate need in his ER department in Boston, some are going to RGH, some to senior centers, some to nursing homes, some to local EMT’s. The need is almost insurmountable. Hopefully more federal supplies will soon arrive but, in the meantime, these facilities are counting on people like us to help them.
I am including a plea for masks sent through Sew Creative, a sewing store in Fairport. That store has been donating supplies and coordinating the RGH effort. I understand JoAnn’s fabrics also is handing out kits ready for fabrication. I believe you can drive up to the curb and access those. If any of you need supplies or help sewing, contact me or Eileen O’Rourke and we can help you.
Again, thank you all. Once again, WCOP members contribute and make a real difference to our community.

All Hands on Deck!
I have been given new information in the last 2 hours. Rochester General is not getting any masks from Hickey Freeman, they will be taking them from us. I just heard from people in the Finger lakes division of Rochester Regional Health and they need about 1700 masks ASAP for the hospitals and other facilities in Wayne county. If you can donate 100% cotton fabric please do so, cutting the pieces to the 15 x 7.5 size is super helpful along with a 2 1/2" x 12" for each piece. I am taking back my previous statement regarding filters, keep them coming!! And another note, If you don't have elastic and want to put a 20" tie on each corner that works great too. Using premade double fold bias tape works.
Keep those machines humming!!
Thanks again for all your help, I wish you could all hear how grateful the health care workers are in this extremely difficult time.
